Cruising altitude
The New Year began at 30,000 feet. Or whatever height you fly at over the Atlantic. I flew from Columbus to Newark yesterday, then onto Dublin after 4.5 hours in Newark. Given changing time zones, I don't know how you define midnight or where I was when it occurred. Possibly asleep.
The highlight of the flight was watching a documentary called RBG about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What an inspirational woman! I didn't know anything about her career leading up to her Supreme Court nomination. She is a warrior!! One of the touching things about the film was the role her husband played in promoting her and supporting her. Apparently she wsan't in the running for the supreme court prior to his making phone calls to all his contacts, urging them to make calls on her behalf. She's not a self-promoting type, and you can see how that would get in the way of joining the highest court in the land.
The photos of her at Columbia, this tiny woman standing among an army of big Mad Men-suited guys are stunning. Her size seemed to underscore the odds against her. The same odds that she beat. She gets a kick out of being the Notorioius RBG and as close to a rock star as a judge is ever likely to get.
