Today was a nutty day. It was the deadline for applying for two jobs I’m interested in with the Institutional Investor Group on Climate Change. I don’t want to work in London but the jobs are interesting and I haven’t found any better options here. The bank holiday put me off--I thought the deadline was tomorrow, but no such luck.
So I spent the morning polishing my CV and writing two cover letters. The lovely thing about jobs on the mainland is that a CV and cover letter is all that is required. No 12-page application where you have to cut and paste your educational and career background into dozens of little boxes (name & address of employer, title, years worked, reason for leaving--for each job) then write 10-12 short essays in response to each of the essential or desirable job requirements.
I had a tee time at 1 pm and just made it. I played Castlereagh Hills on Saturday and could not do anything right. I think I lost 6 or 7 balls that day--lots of streams, ponds, tall grass. Today I played somewhat better, but still plenty of goof balls (i.e. they went nowhere or went well off the fairway).
Tomorrow I have an interview with a professor who specialises in the utility sector. This for a freelance article I started in June then let drop. I spent the evening getting halfway through 14 pages of notes I’ve collected on the topic. It’s a very technical area and I don’t want to waste the professor’s time, so I’m getting as much in my head as possible.
