Capacity benefit
Highlight of 16th: this is the second time I’ve played golf where I’ve kept score for all nine holes. The scorecard isn’t pretty--but not as bleak as last year's would have been had I had the stomach to record my scores. Which I didn’t. I don’t swing and miss the ball anymore, for instance.
On 16th & 17th I read a 76-page report titled: "All-Island Generation Capacity Statement, 2017-2026.” The article I’ve started working on after a two-month break is about the effect connecting the north and south power grids will have on power generation in Ireland. Here’s a snippet: One of the advantages of the second North-South Interconnector: "combining the systems results in a capacity benefit, where less generation plant is required on the island overall to meet the combined loads.” Which means reduced carbon emissions.
Highlight of the 17th: I went to a swing dance in Bangor with a 1940s theme. General Eisenhower spoke in Bangor in 1944, promising a party when the war was over. So this was the party. Something like that. I danced all night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I danced with a few leads who were very good and had very fast spins--I did my best to keep up but I was knackered by the end of the night. I changed my top three times, I sweated that much. My first outfit approximated a sailor (navy and cream striped trousers, navy and cream coloured top, and a navy beret). My third outfit approximated Rosie the Riveter. Sorry (not sorry), no photographic evidence.
