To the castle
Today was the last day of mom's trip, so it was hard to select the final outing. We squeezed in one more road trip, this time to Castle Ward at the mouth of Strangford Lough. Mom and I took the tour of the castle and learned about its crazy inhabitants. So many stories I wouldn't know where to begin. I didn't take any photos so I'm stealing from the internet: Kitchen.
People touring the kitchen:
Boudoir:
Boxing squirrels:
The reception room:
Mom can tell you stories about the plaster on the reception room walls; the boxing squirrels; the Kodiak bear; the lunatic son; the seasonal bath; eavesdropping; the saucer and bowl of tea; and the habit of the Ward family to find the wealthiest women around so they could use their fortunes to build ever larger homes and gain titles.
We didn't make it to Winterfell, i.e. the areas used to film Game of Thrones. We did go to the Lobster Pot in Strangford for lunch. Aerial of Strangford:
We also swung by Killyleagh Castle for a peek (another internet photo).
The weather wasn't great so I didn't take any of my own photos.
