Time Stands Still: Downhill Demesne

I’m blogging a bit too fast and so failed to successfully publish this. It should appear after the Binevenagh hike but before mom’s visit, but it stayed in the draft folder. I’m keeping the 6-26 date on this--out of order. Whatever. This is the original blog post:

I took more photos on Sunday than I’ve posted over the past three days. As a result, for the first time ever, I’m having two posts for one day. How radical of me! I can’t move on to the 27th yet because there are plenty of photos from the 26th.

After the hike on Sunday, David and I visited a nearby National Trust property--Mussendun Temple at Downhill Demesne. The nearby big house--once owned by the Bishop of Londonderry--is a ruin. It was built over the course of several centuries.

This is inside the house looking down to Mussendun Temple.

On a cliff above Downhill beach is the small temple--once the bishop’s library--called Mussendun Temple. During my school years this was known the bishop’s tit (tee hee--school boy humour).

Here is Downill beach in the background--popular on this hot day.

And here’s me obstructing the view:

You enter the property through the walled garden, which is separate from the house. The garden had a dovecote, barely visible on the left.

Here’s a close up:

Info on same:

On another part of the board was info about dove poop being used for: fertiliser, gunpowder, and leather tanning. And the doves being eaten in the winter.
