The Troubles

Today David and I viewed a house that we may make an offer on. It's a townhouse in Belfast, meaning David can walk to work and we are close to Queens University and night-time activities. We give up the coastal path, but you can't have it all. We will also be in smaller quarters because Belfast is more expensive. But at our age we should be downsizing anyway.

After the house visit, I went to the Ulster Museum to see Art of the Troubles, in which a collection of artists expressed their reaction to sectarianism in the north and the violence it inspired. It was tough to see, I lived in Derry in the 1970s, which was ground zero for the troubles. The images brought back visceral memories of how hard it was to witness so much violence and hatred. But there was always the mirror image--the people working for peace, the bridge builders, the peddlers of hope. The fact that the Troubles are a museum exhibit shows you which side won.

From there to Botanic Garden, where I sat outside and read and got a sunburn.

David and I ran errands after work, went to a chippie then out to Groomsport for dinner. This is the view from Groomsport:

If you're going to eat a veggie burger and chips for dinner, you may as well have a view:

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a painting.
