The Boss of 90
Yesterday while I was gallavanting around London, my mom celebrated her 90th birthday. I'd rather have been with her, however I thought she'd be doing something with my sister. As it turns out, my sister is moving house this week and by the time I realised this it was too late to undo my London plans.
So mom's friends took her to a historic home in Marietta Ohio, where I rented a room and had a catered meal delivered. My sister took care of flowers. Mom knew she was going out to lunch, but she assumed a local restaurant. I wasn't impressed by the local restaurants I'd been to with her so I opted for something different.
Here she is with her neighbour Sandi. She is wearing a heart necklace I gave her for Christmas because she is my heart. I am so very very grateful that she is in such good health and enjoys complete independence and many close friendships. What more can you ask for?
The photos above are taken in her kitchen, where she has two bouquets from my Casey cousins and my niece, plus lots of cards. The picture below was taken at the luncheon.
I gave her Easter garlands made from Harris tweed. I asked someone to take a photo so I could share it with the woman at St. George's Market who created them at my request. It seems like an odd present, but I had given mom tweed Christmas garlands and she just loved them. Mom is hard to buy for, so I stuck with a winner. She also has a big badge that says 90 on it--also out of Harris tweed. But I think she declined to wear it.
I had the caterer put strawberries next to the chocolate cheesecake--an homage to the chocolate covered strawberries mom makes for her friends every Valentine's Day. And here is the Wedgewood Gang:
Mom is holding a cookie my sister's friend made and the individual flower arrangements are shown. Sandi, Nancy and Connie all let me know they really enjoyed the event--apparently the food was really good. Sadly missing from the photo is mom's good friend Sandy, who had an accident the day before the lunch and has undergone hip surgery. She really wanted to be there and she was much missed by the gang. I'm sending her this post at her request.
Mom and I will be planning at trip at some point this year to celebrate her 90th and my 60th. May the celebration continue!!
