Shop til you drop
David's co-worker Helen got me out with two of her friends today to hit the charity shops. We started in Holywood--a wealthy area, so good pickings--then went to a shop in Connswater where everything was 99 pence ($1.70), then to Cregagh (pronounced Creggie) Road, which has the highest concentration of charity shops.
My big purchase was a set of MacGregor golf clubs and a bag for 15 pounds (about $25). I have an incomplete set in storage, but David and I have been wanting to go to a driving range and we could conceivably play while on holiday Aug. 6-13, when we will drive the Atlantic coast of western Ireland.
I think we hit about 10 shops. It becomes numbing after a while. How many tops, skirts, and pants can you look at in one day? And even if I do find a High Street frock (i.e. a high fashion brand) at a really good price, where would I wear it? I ended up with two sweaters and a shirt for David. Helen had a great time buying clothes for her infant nephew--she's got the rest of the year planned for him, including a bug costume for Halloween.
