Sagres: More than a beer

When you send David grocery shopping, this is what you get:

I'm not complaining, mind you. Note the Sagres beer on the left. It's the most common beer in Portugal and shares its name with a town on the southwest tip of the Algarve. If you think of Portugal as a tall narrow rectangle, Sagres is at the bottom left corner.

We spent Friday in Sagres, starting at the marina.

Then we went to an impressive fort, base of Henry the Navigator, who took nautical exploring to new levels, enabling the slave trade that Portugal dominated in the 1400s. Way to go Henry.

Sagres is a surfing town. I don't know if we have surf culture to thank for the cozy sweaters adorning many of the lamp posts?

To the lighthouse!
