Radical transformation
One of the things that makes Derry such a beautiful city is the waterfront, which had been a commercial port back when I lived there in the 70s. Today it has two marinas; this is the view from Queen’s Quay:
It also has a series of apartment buildings and public spaces and a grocery store. This is the view of the quay from the water.
So where did the tankers and piles of coal and lumber go? The ugly stuff cities run on? At some point they moved the port across Lough Foyle to an industrial area called Maydown, where my dad worked at the Dupont plant.
Seeing tankers of oil and mountains of coal would be distressing were it not for...
...a ship carrying wind turbine blades! I saw quite a few turbines up in the hills that border Lough Foyle.
I think this is the Dupont plant but I’m not sure--not used to seeing things from Lough Foyle.
