PRI in Person, Part 2
One of the highlights on Tuesday was a panel featuring five of the 10 members of the Climate Action Steering Committee, of which I am coordinator. I had never seen them in a public speaking role and they were all very impressive, conveying the range and impact of the work we are doing.
During breaks, I have the opportunity to meet and talk to any of hundreds of people milling around. But I don't. A lot of these people know each other and form knots that I find difficult to break into. Occasionally I'll be near someone on their own and strike up a conversation, but that is the exception, happening maybe once/day. I don't like this about myself but I think people like me--introverts--have our own role in the human ecosystem.
Tuesday night was the opening reception at a fun fair museum, a collection of vintage games and rides from French fun fairs. I was dreading this because I expected clowns, bright flashing lights, loud music, crowds. My worst nightmare really. However, it was actually fun. I think the difference is something circus related in America would be a bit creepy and shabby. Whereas the French have an over-the-top relationship with costumes and decor. It was more Art Deco and Marie Antoinette than a timeworn midway.
I didn't bring my camera so this photo is courtesy of one of my colleagues. I took the metro back to my lovely hotel while my colleagues stayed out until 3 am.!!
