Playa Las Americas
Today we took a taxi to the beach named above. On this volcanic island, most of the beaches are black, like this one.
Mom had her rollator and we went quite a ways along the promenade--which had the beach on one side and bars/sourvenir shops/hotels on the other. We sat and people watched for a while. We saw a few people in rented motorized buggies--one person in front, one in back. I didn't have my driver's license with me so I couldn't rent one but that will be our first stop tomorrow, when we will be exploring La Caleta.
Back to the hotel for some photo ops.
I went to the golf course to change my reservation from 18 to 9 and rent a buggy for mom. Sadly, I leraned no buggies allowed on the course due to a heavy rain the night before. I hit a bucket of balls, back to the hotel to report the news to mom. She rested and read while I played my round. Mom took the photo below!
I played the front 9 with an Austrian couple, who are here for two months. They didn't play very well so, again my fears of being with people much better than me were allayed. I played the back 9 on my own.
There were two fourballs in front of me so it was slow going. I skipped 15 and 16 and played the last two holes to speed things up. I played much better than on Thursday due to some time on the driving range. 18th green above.
There is a black swan on the course. This isn't a good photo--her white swan buddy is pretty aggressive, so I kept my distance.
Sunday we took a cab down to Playa Las Americas, where I rented a three-wheeled scooter, which allowed us to go for miles and miles along the coast on a wide pavement.
It was a gorgeous day and I was happy that mom got to see so much of the area.
We passed maybe a half dozen beaches.
I thought we'd stop at a cafe somewhere for an ice cream, however buffet eating twice a day seems to mean neither of us is ever hungry.
Our destination was a little village called La Caleta. However, on the beach just shy of there, Playa Emranada, part of the boardwalk was missing and we couldn't get across. So we turned around--leaving La Caleta for tomorrow.
We passed through Puerto Colon, from where we departed on the whale watching trip. On the way back I stopped for a photo.
It was a grand day out. Mom really enjoyed it and I was relieved I never hit anyone. The promenades are very crowded in some sections and it is hard to keep the scooter moving at a walking pace, avoiding tourists as they meander and stop without warning.
