Half a Yellow Sun

My reading material has progressed from the horrors of China from the 1920s to the 1970s to the horrors of Nigeria in the 1960s.

This book is about the establishment of Biafra, a state within Nigeria created after atrocities a muslim tribe committed against another tribe that was predominantly Christian--but also predominantly successful in business, causing resentment among muslims who weren't as learned or entrepreneurial.

As so often is the case, an outside colonial force (Britain) made things more lethal by giving aid and comfort to the muslims, whom the British had selected to be the leaders of Nigeria because they were more malleable.

I think I my next book needs to be a bit lighter. Although I must say Half a Yellow Sun is beautifully written and the characters' conduct and flaws give me new insights into the human condition, particularly how women react in the face of betrayal.
