Move-in mugging
The moving company wanted to move us in tomorrow (Friday), after our container cleared customs. I was trying to hold off until Monday or later, while trying to learn the cost of different options. While I waited for the moving company to quote prices on storage at the quay vs. offloading at their facility, they gave up my Friday delivery spot.
Long story short, they are picking up my container Monday morning and delivering it between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Our free pass at the dock ends Saturday night. We'll be charged the daily demmurage fee of $75 for Sunday and for Monday, even though our container will be picked up first thing Monday. And even though our moving company doesn't offer Saturday delivery.
The house remains a messy construction zone but I have faith in Ian's team that they will get enough space cleared that we can empty the container. Our neighbors have offered us space in their garages, which we will most likely use. There are 155 items on our container, mostly boxes but also pieces of furniture. We want to offload everything into three rooms to leave the rest clear for Ian. We'll see if it works.
Meantime, here's a photo of Crawfordsburn on a recent morning. David and Maysie are barely visible on the left.
