Moor hiking

We started the day in Castleton, a picturesque village, then hiked up a bridle path to a ridge along a valley. The occasional standing stone. On the descent into the valley we encountered a lovely grouse, adding to the kestral we saw yesterday while hiking along a cliff.

Once down in the valley we saw some lovely horses.

Boys on one side of the road, girls on the other.

All the houses and farm buildings are made from the same stone.

I would say the landscapes here are no prettier than in Northern Ireland but we don't have the trail networks and easements that have been developed throughout GB, making hiking more difficult.

I felt like I was in James Herriot country all day. The day finished with a curling competition in the lounge. Good fun.
