Mela

So today was Belfast Mela, when we get to hear singers and watch dancers from a range of global traditions. My favourite was the Bhangra dancers Ankhile--an interesting name since I would break my ankles if I tried to do what they do. Then there were the Punjabi Dhol drummers, The Dhol Foundation. And a Zimbabwean guy named Wilson Magwere who has put together a band of people from Africa and Ireland called Magwere. While the summer here has been mostly soggy, today was lovely. I'm so glad when that happens--so many vendors, so many volunteers, so many artists would see all their work wasted if it were a washout.
