McKee Cup
Friday morning I played May Henderson in the fifth and final round of the McKee Cup, having won matches against Carol Hill, Helen Moore, Aoife Bradley, and Julie Tollerton. I won the first three holes but took no comfort, as that didn't help me in a Challenge Cup match that I lost. Then May won the fourth. I won 5-7 and May won the 8th. We tied the 9th, so I was up four at the end of 9. We tied on 10 and 11. I won 12, she won 13. So I remained four up. I won the 14th, which put me five up with only four holes left to play, so I won the match. Here's my scoring sheet. It says granite at the top b/c we don't play from the ladies' tees but from a granite marker further back.
Circles on the right denote where I get one more shot than she does, due to having a higher handicap. I'm a big fan of match play because it makes every shot count in a way that doesn't register when you are in the weekly competition.
Saturday morning I went to the driving range and got fitted, i.e. hit a lot of balls to have them confirm that the irons my coach selected for me are a good match. So I bought the second hand irons at a significant discount to the new price. Saturday afternoon I saw a wonderful film with Ann--The Forgiven starring Ralph Fiennes. Taut, exotic, a clash of cultures, and a finely woven morality tale. Like McDonagh's last film--Calvary. Sunday I met Patricia and Eddis for lunch then we went to see The Gap Year, a hilarious film about three women traveling to visit every county in Ireland. I am always impressed by the quality of the acting at The Lyric.
My weekdays are generally not worth remarking on. I've been very busy at PRI, one paper after another. I see a physio every two weeks to check on progress with my knee. I don't think I'll make significant progress until I go to the US and am no longer walking a strong dog every day and playing golf.
