Literary circles

I was asked to do a reading last night and I read a poem I love called Inversnaid, by Gerard Manley Hopkins. It’s about a lovely place in Scotland, so that was my weak link to Burns Night.

This morning in church, one of the choir members said he enjoyed reading Hopkins’ poems while he researched the writers who influenced C.S. Lewis. Another man in the choir said Dylan Thomas was heavily influenced by Hopkins and was known as the inebriated Hopkins. Both of these men are very down to earth, friendly men with no airs. Yet they read and engage with poetry. I love that. This is a land where language is celebrated.
