Ladies Competition

I'm taking half day vacations on Tuesdays so I can compete in the weekly golf competition. My handicap last year started at 54 then dropped to 49 when they introduced a new system for calculating handicaps (it wasn't because I had improved!). A 49 handicap means you get 3 extra shots on 13 holes and 2 extra shots on 5 (39+10=49). We use a Stableford scoring system, which awards you points based on your actual score compared against your adjusted par (the extra 2 or 3 shots).

Long story short, today I scored 38 points and won the ladies competition! There were 73 people in this round, so I'm quite chuffed.

I have had two lessons so far this year and they are why I have started improving lately. My coach, Geoff, is a good teacher and, importantly, treats me with respect. A lot of male golfers don't have much respect for female golfers. And I am not going to spend time with someone I find patronizing.

Geoff's wife has a handicap of 8. I played with her once and was a bit blown away. She suggested I take some lessons with her husband, and that is what I'm doing. To very good effect.

The upshot of such a good round, however, is my handicap is now 41. Three extra shots on 5 holes (not 13) and two extra shots on 13. So it will be much harder to score points in the future. I can't complain because my goal is to have a handicap in the 20s.
