A very long day

Today I found myself wondering, more than once, why I can't be a normal person and spend part of my summer sitting on a beach with a cocktail and a good book. Summer should be about relaxation and indulgence in a peaceful place. I spent much of the day in this very hot classroom:

When class is in session, there is not a spare chair in the room and those rows are very close together. It is in the 90s here, there is no air conditioning at the university and today was a very long day. After an 8 a.m. start, we spent the morning touring the University of Zurich campus and the (very hot) public library. After a lunch break, we were in lectures from 1:30-5:30. Then we took a walking tour of the city (without the benefit of dinner) from 6-8:30. I was a very hot, tired, grumpy introvert by the end of it---desperately in need of time away from my 26 fellow students. They are wonderful young people but, when you are an introvert, that doesn't matter. I should also mention this is a city of stairs. The difference in energy between the 23 year olds and the 53 year old was very apparent.
My whining aside, this is a gorgeous city. Here's the central courtyard in the University of Zurich.

Note the glass ceiling, which intensifies the heat. Here's a photo from our tour. Zurich is more beautiful than I expected. Its old town is similar to Luzerne's, which is the more touristy city.
