Golf-a-thon
We are coming into competition season. Beginning the week commencing Monday, 13 May, I was scheduled into four competitions. So the first two weeks of May have involved a lot of golf as I try to work out problems like topping the ball.
Our course is in woeful condition and it's beginning to tick me off. Only 13 holes open, when most courses have 18 open, and there is tall grass and grass clippings everywhere. I'm losing balls on every hole. They could be just a foot or two off the fairway or green but unfindable.
I played Rockmount with my coach and it was lovely and the Ava Course at Clandeboye with friends and it was lovely. There's nothing like seeing other courses in perfect condition to make you feel fed up with playing in a hay field.
I'm wearing a hat I bought in Spain – always eager to keep the sun off my face. Here I am with my playing partners. They are very competitive with each other but leave me to do my thing. Which is nice – much more relaxing than being in a competition.
Today is 14 May and two of my matches this week have been cancelled due to the course conditions. I was supposed to play 18 today in the weekly ladies competition – more hay fields to lose balls in! – but my playing partner has cancelled, due to the conditions, so it looks like I'll play 9 with two other players going out after work.
In other news, I've been to three Cathedral Arts Quarter Festival events in the past week. I enjoy getting out to hear live music every now & again. The first event was completely in Gaelic, so, while the singing was lovely, I didn't know what anyone was saying or singing. The last event was a London-based Afro beat band called Imbibio, very high energy. Otherwise, lots of gardening and, when we had two sunny days, lots of laundry. Back to rain today. Someone told me we have had 60 inches of rain since July, compared with a norm of 36 inches. I just found a headline saying March's rain was 49% above normal. Both statistics highly credible. The few days of sunshine we had were glorious but too short lived.
