Global Progress Report

I was on a call today for Climate Action 100+ in which signatories around the world reported on progress with the companies with which they are engaging. We had people on the call from Australia, Hong Kong, London, the U.S. talking about engagements with an oil company, a tech company, and a utility. It’s exciting to see what it possible when people from CalPERS and the Church of England, among others, spend years building trust and relationships with executives of the companies in which they invest. I get the impression that the engagements are respectful, informed, and a dialogue--which of course increases the chance of success, as the agreement at Shell showed. Shell agreed to major emissions reductions targets and tying those goals to compensation for 1,200 executives. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is where the rubber meets the road.
