Get into the groove

Last night I was supposed to go to a ska dance party downtown. But a week ago I went to an 80s dance night and learned about the drawbacks of indulging my need to get my groove on (at 80s night, they played Madonna's Get Into the Groove, which I probably spent a year of my life dancing to in the 80s, due to extended remixes).

Drawback #1: Being an introvert in an extrovert environment is so draining. Standing around in a bar watching extroverts enjoy themselves is always tough for us introverts. I calculated that I was at the bar nearly 3 hours and probably danced to only eight songs. That is such a poor return on the investment of time and introvert discomfort. But it did feel good to dance.

Drawback #2: I was extremely hung over the next day. I had only one drink so I realised the hangover was simply from being exposed to loud music for so long. Smoking is prohibited, so it wasn't that. I would have thought you get less sensitive to noise as you get older, but apparently not.

So I skipped last night's ska dance party, enabling me to get into a different groove today--European competition law. I took a break and went to church, allowing me to walk through the lovely Botanic Garden on my way back to the library.
