Edenmore

Friday I played golf at a course near Moira called Edenmore. It's a very long course with open fairways (good) and slopey greens (bad). Above all, it was beautifull, surrounded by farms. My course is a city course, surrounded by housing, so a different vibe. The club house has a deck on three sides with beautiful views. It was once a military hospital.

The little tree by itself on the left of the fairway denotes 150 yards to the pin. Every hole has one. Most courses have a plaque in the ground that is hard to find.

If a hole is a dog leg, there is often a bell to let those teeing off know that you have turned the corner and they can proceed. It probably isn't good form to put a bell on an ancient standing stone, but there you are.

The Challenge Cup team is playing Edenmore on June 12. So we get a free practice round on their course and they get the same on ours. We will have two matches at home (Shandon) and three away (Edenmore). The captain has a look at us on the away course to decide which players to play away and which to play at home.

I don't think any of the photos do justice to how pretty the course was. Afterward, we had snacks in the clubhouse and headed home. One of the captains, Cindy, drove me so the whole day was a luxury.

On the way home I passed Christine and Andrew and Clare. They Shanghai'd me to join them at Shandon for dinner, once I had fed Paddy and spent a half hour at home. After dinner there was a swing band, so we all danced as well. I knew the swing band would be there but didn't invite Swing Belfast friends because there are  so many swing events on this weekend, due to the Platinum Jubilee.
