Don’t fence me in

It was a gorgeous morning yesterday as I walked around Edinburgh. Then I took a bus to the airport to head home to Belfast. I was in a really bad mood and it took me a while to figure out why. When you are in an airport, you are a captive audience for marketers, which I resent immensely. I do not like being forced to run the duty-free gauntlet while loud music is played and bright lights are radiating around me. Once I’m past all the perfume and makeup and liquor, I’m then in a hallway full of restaurants and kiosks that I have to snake my way around. There is no other way to get to the gate than by traipsing through all these vendors. Drives me nuts.

Here’s a nice Edinburgh doorway:

My conference was at the Royal Edinburgh Society on George Street, home to Edinburgh’s big banks. Here’s a flower box at The Dome, a former bank.

My charming B&B host Gareth told me to go inside for a peak. I was too intimidated, but a photo from the internet shows that it is quite impressive:

I had a photo earlier of what apparently is the back of the national gallery. Here’s the front (in the distance):
