Decorating disaster
We were in a shop today talking to Simon about getting a runner made for the stairs. We were talking about pattern repeats and he told the tragic tale of the Brinton butterflies. I had seen the very carpet he was talking about in a magazine. It is lovely--a buttery color with red butterflies. It has a large repeat, meaning the butterflies are far apart. A woman put it in her bedroom and, when the bed and the dresser were put in place, there were no butterflies. The furniture covered the few in the room. I know this would rank at the top of a First World Problems list, but I nonetheless thought this was tragic and funny at the same time. Imagine spending a boatload of money for this beautiful textile and then not being able to see the very thing that inspired the purchase?
