Deck the halls

We spent the weekend painting the hall in the foyer and on the first floor landing. I still can't find a charger for the camera battery so I'm showing only before pictures.
We took the wallpaper off to reveal what was all the rage back in 1905--brown and gold plaster with a stripe down the middle. Lovely right?

Above is the view from the back of the house looking toward the front. The photo below is from the front of the house looking back. To the right are the stairs leading to the guest bedroom on the third floor.

After many days of stripping wallpaper, spackling, sanding, and spackling and sanding some more, I'm sorry to say all we've accomplished is making the walls look like they did when we got there--beige with white trim, just without the wallpaper. The paper was pretty badly shredded as part of the rewiring and replumbing and David's research showed wallpaper adds to moisture issues. The walls may not remain beige, once we find a rug for the foyer and a runner for the stairs.
