Dancing the night away

Tonight I went to my third Out to Lunch event. O2L has expanded to include night-time events, this one a popular DJ. It takes some nerve for an introvert such as myself to go to a dance club by myself. But it worked out very well. The first two hours not much happened (no one was into the pre-DJ DJ). When the famous DJ came on (famous in the world of DJs--I’d never heard of him), the place came to life. Suddenly the dance floor was crowded enough that I felt I had cover to get up and dance by myself, which is what I did. I noticed I wasn’t the only one. People seemed to dance on their own or in groups, not much in the way of two people dancing while facing each other. For club music (remixes of Grace Jones, Talking Heads, Michael Jackson, James Brown), you really don’t need to be facing someone or attempting to interact with someone while you dance. You just get your groove on and enjoy feeling the music. It was so much fun. I had planned to take the last bus home but instead stayed an extra hour and took a cab. An expensive 10 pound ($12) indulgence. But it was worth it--best night out in a long time.
It helps that the Black Box, where the event was held, attracts people of all different ages. Which is really nice. I didn’t feel like I had wandered away from my AARP group.
