Bloody Bridge

As I mentioned yesterday, today’s trip was the Mourne Scenic loop. We started with a drive-by of Killyleagh Castle then Dundrum Castle. Next we drove through lovely Newcastle, then did a short walk at Bloody Bridge. During one of Ireland’s many revolts, a group of rebels was dispatched into this river which ran red with their blood.

Where the Bloody River meets the Irish sea:

We drove along the coast through Kilkeel and lovely Rostrevor and stopped at Warrenpoint for lunch, looking out over Carlingford Lough. Then inland to Mayobridge, Hilltown, and Castlewellan Forest Park, where we walked around our third castle of the day. Then home. I took surprisingly few photos. I attribute this to being absorbed in conversation. Assunta is a world traveller and at Castlewellan she was sharing stories with us about her travels in China. Apparently parents’ highest goal is to have their child educated in the U.S., and then have the child bring the parents to the U.S. It doesn’t speak particularly highly of China.
