Blackbird singing

Yesterday I did such a tough workout at the gym (Body Pump) that today I didn't go anywhere, other than take Maysie for a long walk.

One of the things I enjoy about our walks is getting to know the birds here. The small English robin, very busy and territorial. The giant hooded crow, with its gray breast and black wings, it looks like it's dressed for a wedding. The rooks that noisily flit about in the rookery high in the trees at the bottom of the glen. The distinctive great tits, with a glossy black head, white cheeks, and a beautiful yellow breast with a black stripe down the middle. The pied wagtail, whose name is only slightly more charming than the bird. The somewhat menacing magpies, which Maysie would make quick work of if we let her loose. And lots of oyster catchers.

And this kingfisher, who patiently waits next to the burn every day.
