Bigger Splash

We saw this film tonight, partly due to my loyalty to Tilda Swinton and partly due to my crush on Matthias Schoenaerts. It was a taut drama involving Tilda’s character's ex-boyfriend (played by Ralph Fiennes) showing up uninvited, upsetting her current boyfriend, played by Schoenaerts. When Matthias’s character does something very bad we are left wondering if he knew what he was doing or was he overcome by a sudden rage, having been provoked repeatedly by Fiennes’s character? You’re left with the feeling that Matthias’s character would spend the rest of his life reliving that moment and trying to decide whether he was in control of his actions or not.

Our hike was in the Silent Valley in the Mournes. It contains two reservoirs, which supply water to Belfast. Here’s the lower one.

It had an “overflow bell mouth” (new phrase to me) that was built in 1932.
