Last night I attended one of the two book groups I’m in. Each of the 17 people present suggested a book for next month. I was the only person to have not read the book I suggested, H is for Hawk. And the group decided to read that book. I attribute this to the power of mystery. Everyone else gave pretty thorough plot summaries, whereas I provided no summary at all. We all love a good mystery, I suppose.

My very good friend Emily bought this book for me and mailed it to me from the states--at an exorbitant cost. I know ahead of time that I will love the book because she went to such lengths to get it to me. I’m glad I’m generating 16 more readers of the book because in some weird way that makes her investment seem like it’s getting a better return.
