A Motet in Forty Parts

When I’m in London I stay with Carolyn Hayman, OBE, who founded and for many years led an organisation called Peace Direct. She is active in her Quaker meeting, she serves on many NGO boards, she’s an excellent cook, she cycles all over London, she plays violin in a quartet with friends and family members for fun, and she sings in two choirs. One night during my visit, she was meant to be singing Puccini in a flash mob at the market that was the site of a recent terrorist attack. The performance was canceled due to ongoing security concerns.

By comparison, my choir’s tackling of simple Presbyterian hymns seems pretty modest.
Today I flew back to Belfast uneventfully.
