A good day at the beach

Marblehead beach in Dunfanaghy yesterday.

The weather was pretty bad while I was there (low 60s?, windy, rainy) and my cold was taking root so I wasn’t eager to go swimming. Dozens of other people were swimming and surfing.

Caroline and her kids were in the water for hours on boogie boards wearing wetsuits. Dunfanaghy is a popular surfing destination--there’s a surf school in the village. The waves were bigger than my photos show but not as big as what I think of as surfing waves.

Anyway, a lot of people in Ireland grow up swimming in the sea and don’t blanche at the cold temperatures of either the air or water. Me, I grew up swimming in July in Atlantic City, so I have a different idea of a good day at the beach.
