A day at the beach

...in Ireland isn't quite the same as in the U.S. First, we walked through high dunes on a boardwalk. But there were no t-shirt shops or pizza places or shiny condominiums.

It was cool and windy so not many people were in the water.

We walked a little over four miles from Dundrum to Newcastle.

Mourne Mountains in the background.

I really enjoyed having the ocean to my left and the dunes to my right. It was just lovely. Even the rocks were pretty--lots of interesting colours and patterns. As you approach Newcastle, the Royal County Down golf course is behind the dunes on the right. You get a nice view of the Slieve Donard Hotel before you go into town for a pint and a falafel wrap. Mmmmm.

The beauty of living in a place with good public transport is we could take a bus back to the next village. We were worn out, so were very grateful not to have to walk four miles back.
